Busted Myths RETURN
Last newsletter we BUSTED a few exercise myths, and we’re at it again this newsletter.
Remember these myths for when someone uses them for an excuse. There is many more myths out there so before you believe the myth ask a member of the PT Gym Team about its relevance.
“Muscles turn to fat when you stop working out”
BUSTED
Muscles and fats are two completely different forms of tissue so this is not possible. Muscle fibres go into rest and shrink when not being used,
“You can’t be fit and fat”
BUSTED
Just because you may be overweight it doesn’t mean you are unfit or unhealthy, although losing weight can certainly increase the chances of being healthy. Having a weight in proportion to your height is ideal.
Seafood Penne
500 g penne
spray of canola or olive oil
400 g seafood marinara mix
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 onion, finely chopped
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon chopped chilli
825 g can crushed tomatoes
freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Cook the pasta in a large saucepan of boiling water. Spray a nonstick frying pan or wok with oil and heat. Cook the seafood in batches over medium-high heat until golden and tender. Toss through the parsley, remove the cooked seafood from the pan and set aside. Spray a clean nonstick frying pan or wok with oil and heat. Cook the onion over medium heat for 3 minutes or until soft. Add the garlic and chilli and cook, stirring, for 1 minute more. Add tomatoes and bring to the boil. Reduce heat slightly and simmer uncovered for 5 minutes. Season with black pepper to taste. When the pasta is al dente, drain and serve topped with the tomato sauce and the seafood. Serve with salad.

Optimal time to train
So when is the optimal time of day to workout?
Our body clock, work schedule, family commitments, etc. all have relevance to this question. For some, anytime is good enough, others have a little more flexibility.
Research has shown that the afternoon from the hours of 4pm to 5pm is the ideal time for training. At this time our body temperature is at its peak. Strength output improves by about 5%; aerobic capacity output improves by 4%; less prone to injuries due to more flexibility; and your alertness is peaking.
Some PROS and CONS:
• In the morning, training works like having a coffee by waking you up and getting your metabolism kick started after the nights rest. Although muscles can be cold and stiff increasing the risk of injury.
• In the afternoon, the body is more awake and able to perform exercise better. Due to the 9-5 working hours it is often very busy in the afternoon after work and school.
• In the evening, exercise helps turn off the brain allowing us to sleep better, although people are far less motivated in the evening after a long day at work.
You should know that this is a generalization for the optimal time to exercise. We haven’t accounted for those shifts workers who work at night, or extremely early or late in the day.
In conclusion everyone has different schedule, lifestyle and goals that affect their training schedule. With life being so busy the best time to train is the time you can consistently training.

Goran Sterjovski
Goran is a BIG Transformers fan. Batman has a closet of Batsuits; Goran has a closet of Transformers shirts. Punctuality is a word Goran hasn’t found the definition of yet, but he’s working on it. Working at a video store definitely has its advantages as he picks up chicks in the romantic comedy section regularly with ease. Goran comes to the gym and doesn’t just lift weights; he lifts the machine and the weights in an impressive move. Although his claims have never been proven as people aren’t usually watching at the time.
